Quality of Life

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) remains the most widely used method of measuring the economic health of a country, and gauging the country’s standard of living. However, GDP often does not give a full representation of societal welfare. In an attempt to address this issue, Phillips Consulting conducted a survey to investigate the impediments to level of income and access to vital services that serve as yardsticks for measuring social welfare.

The Quality of Life Survey involved an analysis of ten essential factors that determine the quality of life of citizens. These were determined, based on their relevance to Nigerian society and importance for economic development, as: Education, Employment, Food, Health, Housing, Potable Water, Power , Sanitation, Security and Transportation.

Phillips Consulting conducted this survey between February and March 2015, to measure economic productivity via these factors and propose solutions based on the identified challenges. A total of 12,276 responses were obtained.

The results of this investigation are presented in this report.
